Tanning Information
Skin replaces itself naturally every 28 days. Twenty-five percent of skin is exfoliated each week, causing a UV-tan to wear away. Sunless spray tans affect only the top 25 percent of skin. Sunless tanners should use a tan-extending program to maintain the level of the sunless tan longer.
The spray tanning solution affects only the dead skin cells. Your skin has a build up of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner it will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take a while for it to “build up”. Your tan will last longer. It is important to use either exfoliating glove or products that don't contain any oils, otherwise the oily barrier can stop the spray tanning solution getting through.
Sunless Tan Maintenance
We recommend that after every five weeks of spray tanning, let your skin rest for 10 days. This allows you to completely lose your sunless tan periodically, which helps eliminate patchiness or uneven areas of wear. These areas are caused by normal contact with clothing and other surfaces, which cause unintended exfoliation. Healthy, moist skin will retain the results of your sunless tanning session longer. Spray tan results will vary by individual.
The life of your spray tan depends on the care you take of your skin. Moisturize at least twice a day. The following products have been shown to reduce the number of days that a spray tan will remain on the skin, so try to find alternatives or simply avoid these products until just before your next spray tanning session.
If you are going to shave, do not use shaving cream or gel. Use a lot of hair conditioner.
Tanning extender is good to use, however you should only use it every third day. DHA will dry out your skin and that is the reason there is so much moisturizer ingredients in the extender. Doing it every third day will help extend your tan, and moisturizing twice a day will keep the tan going.
If at all possible, you should try to avoid contact with chlorine or excessive sweating inside of closed toed shoes, as both can lead to premature fading of a spray tan. If you notice uneven or premature fading of your spray tan, you can always correct this by touching up your spray tan with a tanning extender. Please ask us for more information. |
